Evelyne - SPIT
Evelyne, a periodic but zealous second-hand shopper was standing in line early one Saturday morning for SPIT-s annual sale of their 60-s-70-s display items. Shopping 2nd hand as much as she can, she came out that morning to be one of the first people to choose an item out of the front window display case. Every year, SPIT Leuven gathers all their collectable items from the 60-s- 70-s decade and has a sort of first come first serve auction, where they pass out numbers and each person in line gets to pick an object of choice out of the display case until all the items are gone. Evelyne, didn-t know what she was going to buy but had her eye on a beautiful art piece in the display window or a giant glass vase. When I asked her why she was looking at those particular items, she said: “Because they-re cute! That-s it. No specific use, just because they-re looking good. It-s always a relation head and heart.” Although Evelyne shops at SPIT about once a month, she said that she shops 2nd hand anywhere she can. “I like it, it-s old and it already has a life, that-s what I like about it. Later on Evelyne remembered another reason why she likes shopping 2nd hand: Nostalgia. She said that because the items are old, they remind her of being young and that she likes to be reminded of it. They possibly remind her of the proverbial Good old days.
